About Me
I am an instructional designer, educator, and writer who has spent over 20 years combining research-based teaching theories and my own imagination to create interactive experiences for a range of people. I thrive in the creative space between information and great communication, whether it be translating difficult ideas into absorbable language or bridging the gap between a learning objective and a learner. I have spent much of my career translating an English department’s pedantically written student-learning outcomes to terrified 18-year old freshmen. And now I use my skills in other spheres—be it exploring the space between the complicated Title IX civil-rights law and an overwhelmed new employee or any complex lexicon and a lay audience.
My andragogical background (fancy for adult-learning approaches) allows me to use research-proven theories to help adult learners both access their own prior knowledge while also challenging them enough to stay engaged in self-paced learning experiences.
My creative-writing background prohibits the dreaded information dump, freeing me to use figurative language, images, and story to engage learners. I specialize in combining Vyond animation, voiceover, and Articulate Storyline to make these stories come to life.
My expertise in teaching writing and speaking—grammar, speech, composition, literary analysis, fiction, creative non-fiction, and poetry—serves me not only when creating clear content but also when communicating with colleagues, clients, stakeholders, students. I can quickly asses my audience's needs and translate jargon onto the (web)page or in person. And I value what I can learns from the subject-matter experts, who help me do my job and make me a better listener.
Finally, my experience with Articulate 360 (Rise and Storyline), Camtasia, Vyond, SnagIt, and Adobe Photoshop, in addition to several LMS’s, allows me to deliver interactive eLearning content that most closely resembles an active-learning, on-site experience.
